We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Farm Director to support the next chapter of our Falmouth farm. This role will lead year-round farm operations and project management, support cross-cultural relationships with immigrant and refugee community farming families, supervise farm program staff, and work closely with partner organizations to advance local food sovereignty.

Position Type: Hourly, exempt, 32 hrs/wk, Wed-Sat

Compensation: Starting at $30/hr, full benefits, PTO

Supervisor: Executive Director

Supervisees: Farm Manager, Farmer Training Program Manager, seasonal interns

Primary Location: Falmouth, ME

Desired Start Time: March 2026

Responsibilities
  1. Community Farm Program Leadership
    • Work with the ED and program managers to ensure program sustainability, develop strategic plans, and set and meet program goals
    • Collaborate and communicate with the landowner and sublesses, in coordination with farm staff, leadership, and other stakeholders
    • Lead day-to-day operations at the 62-acre community farm (approx. 7 acres in cultivation), including tractor field work
    • Manage the maintenance and improvement of farm infrastructure and equipment, such as irrigation systems, field equipment, and greenhouses
    • Design and implement soil health and cultivation plans, including cover cropping and working with ag service providers as needed
    • Supervise farm staff; support onboarding, offboarding, and review processes; and manage team schedules
    • Support farm staff in providing hands-on, in-field training and technical assistance
    • Support participant communication, including spring registration, program evaluation, and end-of-season check out for approx 40 families
  2. Seedling Program Coordination
    • Support the planning, contracting, production, sale, and distrbution of approx 40,000 culturally familiar seedlings to the Community Farm and Urban Ag programs
    • Lead seedling greenhouse planning and management, and develop plan for seedling program expansion
  3. Organizational Work
    • Support federal, state, and foundation grant applications, budget management, program tracking, and reporting
    • Support program resource development, including donor engagement and farm tours
    • Maintain and organize program records
    • Participate in staff meetings, professional development, annual reviews, and budgeting
    • Submit timesheets, reimbursements, and invoices
    • Participate in organizational and partner events
    • Other work as assigned
Desired Qualifications
  • 5+ years of commercial farming experience, including personnel management
  • Lived or professional cross-cultural experience, direct experience with immigrant, refugee, and asylum-seeking communities and working across languages preferred
  • Experience using a tractor for cultivation in a commercial farm setting
  • Able to drive and back up large trailers
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Excellent communicaation skills, both verbal and written
  • Valid Driver’s license, reliable transportation
  • Strong alignment with Cultivating Community’s mission and values

We are seeking a dedicated individual with strong communication and cross-cultural technical assistance skills to join our Community Farm Program. This navigator role will provide direct support to program participants in achieving their unique farmland access goals through land searches and farm development processes.

Position Type: Hourly, non-exempt, 20 hrs/wk

Compensation: Starting at $23/hr, full benefits, PTO

Supervisor: Executive Director

Primary Location: In-person at our Portland Office, and at both community farms as needed

Responsibilities
  1. Program Coordination
    • In collaboration with Maine Farmland Trust, Land for Good, Liberation Farms, and other partners, act as the primary point of contact for Community Farm Program participants in navigating resources and opportunities
    • Connect farmers with resources to support beginning farm infrastructure development
    • Serve as a liaison to build trusting cross-cultural relationships between farmers and technical assistance providers based on farmers’ articulated needs
    • With partners, support farmers in navigating the farmland purchase/acquisition processes
    • Support business development connections and process navigation 
    • Support subleasing and contract negotiations at CC’s two community farms 
    • With organizational leadership, support cross-organization collaboration, including program design and development of a long-term land access support programming strategy
  2. Organizational Work
    • Support federal, state, and foundation grant applications, budget management, program tracking, and reporting
    • Support seasonal surveys and planning processes

    • With CC farm staff, coordinate and support on-farm educational land access trainings and workshops with community partner organizations

  • Understanding of Maine’s food system and community partnerships
